We did it! Yesterday was the opening of the "Dreamers, Misfits, and Rebels" exhibition at Star Gallery in CityArts Gallery, Orlando Fl.
Several of us arrived at the gallery early. The small prints that we hadn't received yet were being stored behind a gate in the back. When I finally had them in my hand... I realized the name at the bottom hadn't been cut... and there were TONS of images.
I started cutting and Chrystal Olivero began helping me to put them in the bags. Then, we noticed there weren't enough bags so we put two images of each artist in the print box. We placed it where it would go and people started getting there. Meanwhile, I met the family members of some artists and some of their friends as well. More artists started arriving and I hugged every single one. I was very happy and excited... and nervous!
We mingled and made awesome conversations... we laughed a lot and simply had fun. When all the artists arrived, we got together in a group to take pictures. Let me tell you... there were A LOT of pictures taken of us. There were cameras flying all around and shot after shot after shot being snapped! It was quite funny as we didn't know what poses to do.
More people began to come in and each artist went their own way. Somehow, I was busy the whole time and time seemed to be flying by. People kept talking to me and others asking me questions. Some of the artists took pictures and uploaded them to the [fa] gallery group. I was so busy that it never crossed my mind to do it, so I'm glad the other artists were doing it.
I walked around to the other galleries to see the work of the artists that didn't belong to [fa]. The exhibitions were great and there was a ton of diversity.
Halfway through the opening, I saw Samantha Goss holding a box and she wouldn't let go of it. I thought it was strange and asked her about it. She acted even more strange and said that it was her box!!! HAHA. I said... O...K!!! A few minutes later, she calls me into the hallway and says that she is actually shy about talking in front of everyone so she wanted to tell me by herself. She said that she and a few others wanted to do something special for me... my eyes got watery... and she handed me the box...
I felt so happy and so touched. It was a beautiful thing!
Later on... Erica Rowland hands me a card and a beautiful blue rose! I was so surprised and felt touched as well.
Back in Star Gallery, people kept coming in and out. It was interesting to see people pointing at images and trying to figure out what they meant and how they were made. At the end of the night, I was interviewed by Orlando Live! It was nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. After my interview, they proceeded to interview Tammy Zurak, Crystal Parker, Chrystal Olivero, and Luz Letamendi!
It was nearing 9:00pm and we were all tired. Most of the artists had already left... because they were hungry. The only ones of us left were Jessica Edler, Tammy Zurak, and I. I went to pick up my things at the back and saw Lena. She congratulated me on the show and asked me how it went. We hugged and she truly made me feel special and welcomed there. She went to talk to my parents and say goodbye.
Afterwards, Tammy, my family, and I went to eat tapas at a nice restaurant called Kasa! The food was delicious but we were eager to leave and go to sleep. Tammy still had an hour and a half to drive so you could say we were sort of in a hurry.
We left... and we got to the hotel... I could not wait one more minute and just went to bed. Then, I couldn't fall asleep. I thought about the event the entire night... I was too excited and hyper!
